Altoona Detoxification Center

Pyramid Healthcare’s detoxification center in Altoona is a safe haven where those with a history of drug and alcohol abuse will find a welcoming environment and supportive health services. Detoxification is often the first phase of an addiction recovery program, and it is an important step in finding your way back to healthful and meaningful living.

Detoxification

After long-term use of drugs or alcohol, the body may develop a chemical dependence on these toxic substances. Sudden removal of the substance may lead to discomfort as the body attempts to heal and normalize itself. While the severity of withdrawal symptoms will vary from person to person, there could be dangerous or even fatal complications as a result of the abstinence. Detoxification is best handled seriously and professionally within a supportive community.

Clients of Pyramid Healthcare are ensured a safe, medically-supervised detoxification. Our alcohol and drug detox program is based on a drug-free model; however, medications are used when they will relieve the physical discomfort of detoxification. Buprenorphine is part of our protocol for the detoxification of opiate-dependent clients.

Clients will meet with one of our experienced detoxification specialists to discuss their treatment history and begin working on placement for receipt of additional treatment after the detoxification stage is complete.

Clients will also benefit from attending NA/AA meetings and discussions facilitated by positive clients from the residential inpatient program or one of our detoxification technicians.

Adolescent Detoxification

While it may not be easy for parents to admit that their teens have a drug problem, there are a number of reasons that could lead youth to develop mental or physical addictions to drugs or alcohol, including genetic predispositions, environmental conditions or stressors, or a co-occurring disorder (depression, schizophrenia, eating disorders, etc.). The goals of adolescent detoxification are physical stabilization, mental healing, treatment planning and planning for the future.

During the detoxification process, the staff provides a safe, supportive environment while teens prepare for the transition to an adolescent D&A program.
