Central PA Autism Spectrum Disorder Academy -

Nicole Robitzer, Program Director

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders who have not achieved academic success in a public school setting are now offered a new option through Pyramid Healthcare’s Central Pennsylvania Autism Spectrum Disorder (A.S.D.) Academy in Clearfield County .

The purpose of the Academy is to offer a specialized school and therapy program to students with autism spectrum disorders. We are working closely with the Intermediate Unit #10, Clearfield-Jefferson Community Mental Health Center and local public school districts to address the special needs of these students.

"This service was needed to meet the needs of the children who have not been successful in the public school setting due to their individual treatment and educational needs," said Jim Vernarsky, Pyramid Chief Operating Officer for Central PA.

The objective of the school is to offer an environment for the students to gain mastery over basic life skills while completing their academic milestones. "All staff have been instructed in the TEACCH method which enables the student to communicate and learn life skills," said John Dibert, Pyramid's Director of Education.

Dr. Craig Feaster, adolescent psychiatrist, offers the psychiatric component of the program and Clearfield-Jefferson Community Mental Health Center provides therapeutic services. The IU #10 consults closely with Pyramid Healthcare to assure that all programming is consistent with state guidelines.

The school is a pilot program and Pyramid plans to expand by building a larger program for adolescents and children with autism spectrum disorders.
